Yoga Therapy is certainly not new, but currently it is becoming a more widely recognized and studied health intervention and support modality in our modern society as we come to acknowledge and understand the importance of the mind/body connection in relation to healing and alleviating suffering. A Yoga Therapist works one-on-one with a client to prescribe specific postures, breathing exercises, and/or meditation and relaxation techniques to suit an individual's current needs. Through the specific adaptations and applications of Yogic practices suited for the individual, clients are better able to manage their condition, reduce their symptoms, restore balance in their system, increase their vitality and develop a sense of agency, awareness and participation in their own healing process. The challenges a client may be experiencing could be from an illness, a physical limitation, a past trauma, or a chronic condition. Yoga therapy is particularly appropriate for many chronic conditions that persist despite conventional medical treatment and is among the most effective complementary therapies for several common aliments.
"Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of Yoga."
