Summer's End

Joanne Dennis | SEP 19, 2026

“In an age of speed, I began to think, nothing could be more invigorating than going slow. In an age of distraction, nothing can feel more luxurious than paying attention. And in an age of constant movement, nothing is more urgent than sitting still.”
— Pico Iyer

This Tuesday marks the end of Summer and beginning of Fall. As summer comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on what we’ve explored together through the Summer Ease Series: allowing ourselves time to slow down, rest, and create more space in our busy lives to embrace the subtle, yet profound practices of Restorative Asana, Pranayama, and Yoga Nidra.

Summer tends to bring a lot of energy and activity, so restorative and subtle practices can be a helpful way to balance that outward momentum with rest and stillness. But the reality is that we do not just stop doing and going once the seasons change. We continue to exist in an overactive and over-demanding world. And the energy of Fall tends to be more of a whirlwind as opposed to a settling of it.

Tomorrow is our final in-person Summer Ease class where we will focus on practices that prepare our systems for the seasonal transition to Vata season (think whirlwind energy), but I’m happy to be continuing restorative yoga classes throughout the fall and winter.

I’ll be offering ongoing restorative classes throughout the coming months in both Newport and Jay, with regular opportunities to slow down, rest, and reconnect. These classes are open to anyone, whether you’re new to restorative yoga or have been practicing with me for a while.

If Summer Ease has been helpful to you, I hope you will continue to join me for practice in the months to come.

I have alot of announcements for my schedule that I will list below, but will also send future emails as reminders. If there is ever any doubt or confusion be sure to head to my website for the most up-to-date info on classes: www.JMOUNTAINYOGA.com

Restorative Yoga Classes in October

I will be offering 3 Restorative Yoga classes in October in Jay and Newport. Please note the specific location, time and day when you register. Classes are intentionally kept small, so space is limited. Please go here for more info on dates and times and to register: https://www.jmountainyoga.com/offerings/restorative-yoga

Joint Freeing Series Special Class:

On Monday, October 12 I will be offering a special class at the Montgomery Town Hall as one of the many therapeutic based yoga offerings I will be rolling out in the months to come. The Joint Freeing Series (Pawanmuktasana) is a gentle, therapeutic class designed to reset your body from head to toe. It consists of 21 simple, rythmic movements that safely guide every major joint-from toes and hips up to your shoulders and neck-through its natural range of motion. You can find more info here: https://www.jmountainyoga.com/offerings/joint-freeing-series

Private Therapuetic Yoga Sessions:

I have updated my page on working with me one-on-one therapeutically. As I roll into my Practicum stage of my Yoga Therapy Certification I will be sharing more to clarify the differences between Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga and Yoga Therapy. It is sometimes a subtle difference, but the benefits of working with a skilled Yoga Instructor that is highly trained in the individualized therapeutic application of yogic practices can be profound.
